Bodybuilding and power lifting community has been one of the few industries that people know very little yet talk about it at great lengths. Every hobby or industry has insiders, tricks of the trade, dirty little secrets, as well as myths, and great misunderstandings. This hub is about two documentaries Bigger Faster Stronger and Pumping Iron that shed some light into the mysterious of bodybuilding and powerlifting.

Pumping Iron

Pumping Iron was an indepedent documentary that debuted in 1977 that shone a light onto the world of bodybuilding. In the sport of bodybuilding the honest honor you can achieve is Mr. Olympia Pumping Iron is about bodybuilding and the Mr. Olympia. The star of the film is Arnold Schwarzenegger the five time Mr. Olympia while he was training for the upcoming Mr. Olympia for a sixth time. As Arnold takes you through his philosophy of life and weight training the world is introduced to Louis Ferrigno(he goes on to become tv's Incredible Hulk) as he was training to compete against his idol Arnold at Mr. Olympia. The documentary shows you behind the scenes of a obscure, unknown sport that for the first time was shown to the mass public. Pumping Iron was an amusing film one I recommend bodybuilders and non bodybuilders to watch to see how times have changed and how far the industry has come the last 33 years. Not many industries can say a film has had an impact the way bodybuilding can say Pumping Iron changed it for the better in 1977.

Bigger Faster Stronger

Bigger Faster Stronger is a documentary by Chris Bell about performance enhancing drugs, bodybuilding, and power lifting. The film follows Chris as he tries to find out America's obession with being the best at everything no matter what we do to get there. It takes an in depth look into the myths, truths, and opinions on steriods while still taking a look at some of the most famous people who have taken or be accused of taking steriods. Chris admits to taking steriods when he was younger then introduces you to his brothers one is still on during the film while the other has stopped using them. Even though the film seems alittle unfocused at time Bigger Faster Stronger does do a great job at giving us a different point of view on what we consider to be cheating, how us as Americans view winning and being the best over everything else, while also pointing out how stubborn people can be on their point of view on a subject.

Neither of these films will go down as one of the best films of all time they are films that I recommend to people who are interested in bodybuilding or power lifting. These films are also an excellent introduction to sports that people know very little about while at the same time showing you a different point of view of the sports. I am not recommending you purchase these film I am suggesting you watch them with an open mind and see if you point of view changes after viewing them or it will atleast show you a different side of the two sports.

I really liked Bigger, Stronger, Faster. Crazy how this guy just keeps dirty needles everywhere for a quick steroids fix.
