Calorie free food is starting to pop up all around us now a days and now every one from diabetics to people looking to lose weight. As we start to see more and more calorie free foods there are questions that come with them like are they really calorie free? Are they good for you? Do they taste good? Can you make a menu around calorie free food that will keep you full? Let's see if we can answer these questions in order to see if calorie free foods are miracles or just full of empty promises.

Let's start with the first question are calorie free foods really calorie free? Probably not they more than likely have three to four calories per serving however due to a loop hole in the law any food with less than five calories can be considered calorie free. Keep in mind that since they are calorie free(or low cal) it means they do not have any carbohydrates or fat however it also means that there is no protein or dietary fiber either. Reading articles from magazines and on line a lot of calorie free foods where made for diabetics in order for them to eat foods that they were used to.

Are they good for you and do they taste good? The taste question is very easy to answer without really answering whether they taste good or not is really up to you. I have had a couple of calorie free foods which I did not care for there taste but I do know some people who like the way they taste. Good for you is another question I get to kind of dodge too because they do not have any nutritional value, you don't get any protein or dietary fiber. The plus side is you do not get any fat or carbohydrates if you are watching your carb intake for the day.

The last question is can you make a menu around calorie free foods that will keep you full? You might be able to I have never personally tried to do it and I don' t know anyone else who tried to do it either. There isn't any fat, protein, or dietary fiber therefore I would have to say the answer is no then again if you ate to your full the question would be how long would you stay full? If you add lots of vegetables to your menu with your calorie free food menu I think you have a chance however if you eat just calorie free food I don't think you would feel full.

Overall I would use calorie free food as a supplement rather than a meal I think they would make a nice addition to a meal. As Americans continue to try lose weight by popping pills, working out, and lowering calories calorie free food is becoming more popular.
